PaperKlay is hopping onto Steam tomorrow, May 27th, and it’s bringing a whole lot of charm with it. This 3D platformer is a love letter to classic collect-a-thons, all wrapped up in a world made entirely of cardboard, paper, clay, and other crafty bits. Think Banjo-Kazooie meets your childhood art supply box, and you’re halfway there.
In PaperKlay, you play as Chick, a plucky chicken, alongside your tiny sidekick Nugget. Their mission is to scamper across a handcrafted world to rescue a bunch of lost eggs. The game’s environments are a real visual treat, with sprawling vistas that unfold as you explore. One minute you’re dashing through a cardboard forest, the next you’re puzzling your way past a village made of pinecones or chatting with a wobbly sock puppet who’s got a few screws loose.
You’re not just running and jumping, you’re rotating and unfolding the world itself to open up brand new paths. The controls are fun, letting you double-jump, dash, and glide through the air with a satisfying sense of freedom. Additionally, hub areas invite you to poke around at your own pace, helping out oddball characters or sniffing out collectibles, while linear levels crank up the intensity with tight platforming moments.
