Tailgate is a heartwarming adventure game where you play as Hyde, an aging labrador-retriever. One morning, Hyde wakes up to find his beloved Human, Derek, missing. Your mission is to navigate the desolate yet beautiful village of San Pedro, using your dog senses to solve puzzles and find hidden passages around obstacles and enemies.
The game offers a unique experience as you see the world through Hyde’s eyes and nose. By sniffing around for scent trails, you are guided to objectives, important places, and hidden items. Along the way, you meet other animals who assist you with their special abilities. For example, a cat who claims she can read, a diplomatic pug, and a stray dog who teaches you survival skills all play crucial roles in helping you navigate the world and complete your quest.
As you explore, you collect memory balls that reveal Hyde’s life story and some doggo wisdom. The game features up to nine different locations, including village streets, an abandoned warehouse, stray dog grounds, rural wilderness, and a mystical canine parallel world. Hyde’s journey is not just about finding Derek but also about reliving precious moments and uncovering ancient dog lore.
Tailgate, developed by solo developer Dmytro Yarynych from Ukraine, is set to release next year for PC via Steam.
