If you love discovering hidden indie gems, you’re in the right place. Today, we’re diving into Part 2 of our series on the top 5 indie games releasing in 2024 that you probably haven’t heard of. Without further ado, let’s dive right in! You can check the first part here.
1. The Plucky Squire
First on our list is The Plucky Squire, an enchanting action-adventure game where you follow the magical adventures of Jot and his friends—storybook characters who discover a three-dimensional world outside their book. When the villainous Humgrump realizes he’s doomed to lose his battle against the forces of good, he kicks Jot out of the book, changing the story forever.
You’ll jump between 2D and 3D worlds, solving puzzles, boxing badgers, flying with a jetpack, and enjoying many more delightful and surprising mini-challenges. This game promises to make you feel like the hero of a living storybook.
The Plucky Squire will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2024.
2. The Precinct
Next, we have The Precinct, where you play as Officer Nick Cordell Jr., a rookie beat cop fresh out of the Academy. Set in the neon-noir world of Averno, you’ll engage in thrilling car chases, handle procedurally-generated crimes, and solve the mystery of your father’s murder.
This action sandbox police game combines 1980s noir aesthetics with a dynamic and immersive gameplay experience. You’ll protect the populace and unravel a gripping storyline, making each playthrough unique.
The Precinct is scheduled for release in Q4 2024, for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
3. Die in the Dungeon
Third on our list is Die in the Dungeon, a deck-building, turn-based roguelike where you use dice instead of cards. As you fight through a mysterious dungeon, you’ll combine powerful dice on your board, enhance their effects with magical relics, and navigate unexpected encounters.
With its unique mechanics and challenging gameplay, Die in the Dungeon offers a fresh take on the roguelike genre. If you enjoy strategy and risk-taking, this game is sure to keep you hooked.
Die in the Dungeon is set to release in Q3 2024 for PC via Steam. A smaller-scale version is already available on itch.io.
4. Fields of Mistria
For fans of farm-sim RPGs, Fields of Mistria is a must-play. Set in an idyllic village between forest and sea, you’re given a homestead in need of restoration. Rebuild the town after an earthquake, uncover strange magic, and develop your dream farm.
Fields of Mistria is a spiritual successor to the farm-sim RPGs of the late 90s, blending farming, magic, romance, and adventure. It’s a nostalgic yet fresh experience that will appeal to both old and new fans of the genre.
Fields of Mistria will release on August 5th for PC via Steam.
5. Ale & Tale Tavern
Last but not least, we have Ale & Tale Tavern, a co-op first-person fantasy tavern simulator. Set in a cozy fantasy world, you play as the owner of an abandoned tavern, working solo or with friends to restore its former glory.
This game offers a mix of genres, including action, fishing, hunting, exploration, and cooking. Engage in fun and diverse quests as you feed the world and make your tavern the best in the land.
Ale & Tale Tavern is set to release sometime this year for PC via Steam. A demo version, Ale and Tale Tavern: First Pints, is available now on Steam for a limited preview of the full game.
